Mr. Jung Jae Kwon, Ph.D Candidate

Jung Jae Kwon is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science and Security Studies Program at MIT. He is currently a pre-doctoral fellow at the Project on Managing the Atom and the International Security Program at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School. His research interests broadly include nuclear security, deterrence, alliance politics, and security affairs in Asia. His doctoral dissertation examines how U.S. allies use their non-nuclear military power to bolster extended deterrence and address challenges specific to their immediate security environment.
Prior to joining MIT, Jung Jae received his M.A. in Politics and International Relations from the Yenching Academy of Peking University in China. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a B.A. in Government. As a citizen of the Republic of Korea, Jung Jae served in the Republic of Korea Army and was deployed on a tour to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
