Dr. Gary L. Geipel
Senior Associate
National Institute for Public Policy
Dr. Geipel is a Senior Associate of the National Institute for Public Policy (NIPP) and serves as a faculty member and director of the doctoral program at Missouri State University’s School of Defense and Strategic Studies. He also works occasionally as a communications consultant for clients in politics and private industry.
Dr. Geipel began his professional life as an analyst for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. From 1990-2003, he was a Research Fellow, Director of Research, and eventually Chief Operating Officer of the Hudson Institute. During that time, he also taught courses on U.S. foreign policy and European politics at Butler University. In 2004, Dr. Geipel joined NIPP, where he published studies on tailored deterrence, terrorism, and the impact of post-truth on national security.
From 2004-19, Dr. Geipel worked primarily in the biopharmaceuticals industry as an executive in corporate communications and public affairs. He holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations and journalism from the University of Southern California, and a Ph.D. in international relations from Columbia University in the City of New York. Dr. Geipel also studied at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität in Munich, Germany, as an ITT International Fellow.
