Uriah Orland

Mr. Uriah Orland is the Associate Director of the News Bureau at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. He serves as an official institutional spokesperson and responds to all media and public queries about university policy and issues. He routinely pitches university research success and stories to regional, national and international media outlets. He also develops media relations guidance and key messaging, prepares communication plans, press briefings, faculty and staff engagements, and post-coverage analysis.
In 2022, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force after serving 20 years as a public affairs officer. His last assignment was as a Defense Department spokesman, Defense Press Operations, Office of the Secretary of Defense. In this capacity, he provided public affairs guidance and council to the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security, the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Strategy, Plans and Capabilities), Assistant Secretary of Defense (Space Policy), U.S. Strategic Command, U.S. Space Command, and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
He entered the Air Force in May 2002 as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. He has served in multiple service, joint and coalition public affairs positions and is a graduate of the National Intelligence University, where he graduated with a Master of Science and Technology Intelligence degree. He commanded the 3d Combat Camera Squadron, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. He also served as the Director, Public Affairs, Air Force Global Strike Command, Barksdale AFB, Louisiana.
